Wednesday’s Weekly Challenge #34 – Flurry Snowflake

Welcome back to the Wednesday Weekly Challenge.  Each Wednesday we will be posting a link to a free pattern and challenging you, the reader, to try it.  In addition to the pattern link, we will post a picture of how our tatting turned out when we followed the pattern. Following the challenge, we will feature reader completions of past challenges.

Challenge Issued: Follow the linked pattern in any color combinations and thread sizes you choose.  [Variations of the pattern are welcome and encouraged.]  Then snap a picture and send it to sbspokane@yahoo.com with the subject line “Weekly Challenge” to see your completed work featured as part of next week’s challenge post. Be sure to include the name you wish us to list with your photo – we want to give you credit! [There is no time limit on sending in your picture – feel free to send in any weekly challenge pictures (from last week or weeks/months ago) and we will feature them as part of the next Wednesday’s post.]

Weekly Challenge #34 – Flurry Snowflake

This week’s pattern is by the amazing Jane Eborall! She has several wonderful patterns available for tatters around the world to enjoy.

Pattern: Flurry Snowflake

I’m currently on a snowflake kick for my tree and this one is a lot of fun! However, I’ve miscalculated the amount of time it takes me to add beads to a picot before a join. Thus, you get to enjoy an in-progress shot. I will upload my completed snowflake when it is finished and I look forward to seeing yours!

Wednesday Weekly Challenge #32 Tatted Roman Cross

Last month, Shuttlebirds discussed making some tatted crosses for the congregation of the church we meet at as a thank you for allowing us to use their facility. I looked around but didn’t find a pattern that fit the idea I had in mind so I started working one out in my head. I wanted the pattern to start at the base so I could easily turn it into bookmark but I also wanted an optional ring at the top so I could make it into a pendant in smaller sized threads.
You will need a pretty full shuttle for the center color, I ran out twice while making the final sample, the second time on the last ring. As you can see in the picture, I just did the shoelace trick and did the final ring in the exterior color.
This is a great pattern to work on the go, the chains are almost all the same and the ring counts are relatively easy to remember.
Also, I tried to put the whole thing on a one page PDF to make it easier to keep a copy; Tatted Roman Cross. If you like or hate it, please let me know.
I hope you have a great time, and I would love to see pictures.
