Welcome back to the Wednesday Weekly Challenge. Each Wednesday we will be posting a link to a free pattern and challenging you, the reader, to try it. In addition to the pattern link, we will post a picture of how our tatting turned out when we followed the pattern. Following the challenge, we will feature reader completions of past challenges.
Challenge Issued: Follow the linked pattern in any color combinations and thread sizes you choose. [Variations of the pattern are welcome and encouraged.] Then snap a picture and send it to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line “Weekly Challenge” to see your completed work featured as part of next week’s challenge post. Be sure to include the name you wish us to list with your photo – we want to give you credit! [There is no time limit on sending in your picture – feel free to send in any weekly challenge pictures (from last week or weeks/months ago) and we will feature them as part of the next Wednesday’s post.]
Weekly Challenge #3 – Triangular Motifs: As I was searching for the free pattern to use this week I came across the DMC Library Tatting book on http://www.antiquepatternlibrary.org/. This book as well as many others hosted on the Antique Pattern Library website are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike License. The pattern that caught my eye was the Triangular Motifs (Plate IV, figure 23, p.37-38 of the pdf file).
It’s a simple motif that was tatted over and over. For what I wanted to do, I only needed three repeats of the motif, because within the pattern – one of my fandoms was calling me. I’m a geek and the triforce from the Legend of Zelda was plain for me to see. So I quickly dug out my shuttles and filled them with a variegated yellow thread.
The motif pattern can be found in the above links. I am copying it here in abbreviated format for those who prefer it that way.
I look forward to seeing what you create with this triangle motif! Happy tatting!
Shuttlebirds’ Reader Spotlight: This is where your tatting will be featured each week you contribute.
