Wednesday Weekly Challenge #39

Welcome back to the Wednesday Weekly Challenge. Each Wednesday we will be posting a link to a free pattern and challenging you, the reader, to try it. In addition to the pattern link, we will post a picture of how our tatting turned out when we followed the pattern. Following the challenge, we will feature reader completions of past challenges.
Challenge Issued: Follow the linked pattern in any color combinations and thread sizes you choose. [Variations of the pattern are welcome and encouraged.] Then snap a picture and send it to sbspokane@yahoo.com with the subject line “Weekly Challenge” to see your completed work featured as part of next week’s challenge post. Be sure to include the name you wish us to list with your photo – we want to give you credit! [There is no time limit on sending in your picture – feel free to send in any weekly challenge pictures (from last week or weeks/months ago) and we will feature them as part of the next Wednesday’s post.]

Weekly Challenge #39 Flowery Bookmark with Self-Closing Mock Rings by Jane Eborall

I joined a shuttle exchange with one of the Facebook groups I am in and part of the agreement is that we send out a bookmark with each shuttle. I wanted each package to have the same bookmark but each one had to coordinate with the shuttles I decorated. After looking all over, I found myself back in the familiar territory that is Jane Eborall’s blog. Since I have not dome much with SCMR and wanted a challenge I decided on this flowery creation.
I will be upfront with yo’all, the first one was a challenge, mostly my own doing. When I am working a new pattern, I find myself trying to anticipate the next stitches anyhow everything is going to work out. This is probably because I rarely follow a pattern 100%’ I always want my own spin on what I am making. I suggest with this pattern, just trust in Jane and her tatty wisdom and it will all work out. Don’t let your brain make it hard than it has to be.
Notice in my picture, none of my bookmarks have tails. I will be adding my special touch instead once they are all done.
Enjoy and read on.

I am super excited about this year’s workshop! It will be my second year attending and my first year teaching. I get to share several of the patterns I’ve made and teach a stitch designed by Ninetta Caruso. You’ll hear about the three classes I’m teaching over the next few days. For now, I’d like to talk about Friday’s classes. Full descriptions of classes and registration forms for the workshop can be found here: http://shuttlebirds.com/workshop2014.shtml

A lucky fifteen will have the privilege of attending Georgia Seitz’ all day Self-Improvement Course. Her class is full, but there are many more options for the rest of us to pick from.

Wednesday Highlight

Since my mind is still completely on another tatting project, instead of a Wednesday challenge, I am going to highlight another tatting site. Georgia Seitz has an amazing tatting site with an amazing amount of how-to, patterns, and challenging ideas. While taking a break today, I made the Cluny Loom for leaves found here. Luckily, I had the plastic canvas star already* so it was easy peasy. I found it difficult to work with my Aerlit shuttle but when I switched it out for my neutered version, this started going faster and easier. Now I am going to try and make the passes in varying widths so it actually looks like leaves.in the picture below you can see my leaf in progress (and tongue depresses, my shuttle case, stylus, and the kiddos mind craft sticker)
Once you have explored Georgia’s site, you are going to want to meet her in person, and you can. Georgia is one of the many talented teachers at this years Shuttlebird’s Workshop. All the information can be found on out website.

Happy Tatting

Weekly Challenge #38 – Rose Heart

This week’s pattern is by the amazingly creative Nancy Tracy. We have featured several of Nancy’s free patterns and look forward to many more in the future.

Pattern: Rose Heart

I tatted mine in two colors. My tension was a bit on the tight side and it is not wanting to lay completely flat, but I love how it turned out. It’s a perfect thing to tat with Valentine’s Day approaching. Enjoy a heart and rose for yourself or share it with a loved one.

P.S. Sorry for the long absence. My computer is acting up (using hubby’s laptop). I took on new responsibilities at my newer job (hooray for teaching a few classes in addition to tutoring!). My husband sent me on a trip to see my sister and enjoy a weekend of fantastically geeky music (I even had the opportunity to perform on stage – singing and playing my guitar!). I think I am finally getting a handle on the new schedule – so you should hear back from me on a regular basis and in the future, I promise to give warning before disappearing for so long.  Happy Tatting!

Happy Birthday Denice!

February Guild Meeting and Updates

Last Saturday was Shuttlebirds monthly Guild meeting. If you have never been, you have missed out. Amongst the laughing, teasing and learning, we covered a lot of details needed to make the April Workshop a success. We have a great line up of classes, great prizes and the food is gonna be scrumptious. For more information, check out the workshop sign up pages.

Guild was also the first time in the past few weeks Natalie and I were able to talk blog. Between Natalie’s great new job (I think she is working an a hundred places right now) and some personal issues for me, we have decided that we need to change the weekly Wednesday challenge to the every other weekly Wednesday challenge. We hate to do it, but by spacing them skittle farther apart, we are able to find better patterns and the time to work them thru so we can give some tips and hints. This decision will also give us the time to post other fun tatting stuff between challenges.

Thank you for your understanding and happy tatting.
