Welcome back to the Wednesday Weekly Challenge. Each Wednesday we will be posting a link to a free pattern and challenging you, the reader, to try it. In addition to the pattern link, we will post a picture of how our tatting turned out when we followed the pattern. Following the challenge, we will feature reader completions of past challenges.
Challenge Issued: Follow the linked pattern in any color combinations and thread sizes you choose. [Variations of the pattern are welcome and encouraged.] Then snap a picture and send it to sbspokane@yahoo.com with the subject line “Weekly Challenge” to see your completed work featured as part of next week’s challenge post. Be sure to include the name you wish us to list with your photo – we want to give you credit! [There is no time limit on sending in your picture – feel free to send in any weekly challenge pictures (from last week or weeks/months ago) and we will feature them as part of the next Wednesday’s post.]
Weekly Challenge #7 – Wedding Garter
“Something old,
Something new,
Something borrowed,
Something blue.”
This week’s pattern is provided by Gina Butler. Gina was sweet enough to find an updated version of her pattern for us to use… and if that isn’t awesome enough, she located the file while running on generator power during a power outage caused by the recent OK storms. That makes her pretty awesome in addition to being creative.

I started the pattern in a size ten and realized that I wanted to use a smaller thread. So I turned it into a bookmark.
Garter pattern in progress.
I followed Gina’s suggested variation of removing one of the 4-1-4-4-1-4 rows to fit the elastic I had purchased. I used Lizbeth thread size 20 color 158 (Niagara Falls) thinking of “…something blue.” The photo album in the background features my wedding cake which my sister-in-law made.

I look forward to seeing what you create with Gina’s pattern. It has potential to be turned into so many things (bracelet, anklet, necklace, bookmarks, etc.) in addition to the beautiful garter it already is.

Reader Submitted Garters (and Variations)
Challenge Accepted – Reader Submission for Weekly Challenge #7 – Variation of Gina Bea’s Wedding Garter Pattern. Variation created and tatted by Natalie Rogers (I’m allowed to accept my own challenge, right?). Tatted in Lizbeth size 20 and colors Niagara Falls and Elderberry Jam. This is mock 1 of the variation. I’m currently working on a draft 2 that fixes some things.
